PROMOTIONS AND Tf^SFERS.

Wellington, Feb. 20. .Tho following police-constables have been promoted to the rank of sergeant, 6ubject to their passing a medical test, and they will be transferred to the stations named: Constables Donald McJvenzio, of Lower Hutt, to Dunedin; Andrew McDonnell, of Aratapu, to Newton (Auckland); L. E. O'Halioran, of Woodville, to Wellington ;'V. R. Taylor, of Palmer ston South, to Duhedin; P. Cassidy, of Rakaia, to Christchurch ; J. A. Matthews, of Te Kuiti, to Auckland.
Commissioner Culen says these promotions, which are a reward for efficiency, and long service, are to be the last under the old system. After March let police officers will qualify by examiHar tiou for advancement in rank.
