THE FEDERATION CONFERENCE.
A GOOD RESPONSE
'(Special bo "The Colonist.")
Wellington, Jan" 2. It looks as if the Federation of Labour will meet with a great deal* of success in its efforts \q bring its trad© union rivals to a friendly conference about matters of joint concern, political action being most prominent. Suggestions were received from supporters of the United Labour Party to put off the gathering until the usual labour conference at Easter, but the Federation is of the opinion that the- matters for discussion could be better considered when there are no other demands on the dolegates' time; therefore the conference will open in Wellington on January 21st, and the indications so far are that there will be over 60 delegates. Among the unions represented will be the Canterbury Tanners' and Felknongers', Manawatu Flax Workers', Dunedin Drivers', New Plymouth Watersiders', Wellington Furniture Trades', Auckland Tinsmiths', New Zealand Federated Bootmakers', Canterbury Freezing Works, Canterbury United Furniture Trades', Wellington Bootmakers', Canterbury Metal Workers', Dunedin Trawlers', Canterbury Tinsmiths', Canterbury Painters', Canterbury Metal Workers' Assistants', Canterbury Printers' Machinists', Noson . Waterside,, Wellington Butchers', Canterbury General Labourers', arid the Coal and Gold Minors' unions .associated with the Federation of Labour.
