A CUTTER WRECKED

Auckland, August 26 Officers of the Fiji .Government steamer Ranadi,'which arrived from Suva last night, state that the weather which has been prevalent in the islands this winter is tlio worst that has been experienced for several seasons. A succession of heavy easterly gales, has made navigation of the coral-bound islands a difficult matter, and during tho lust few weeks several vessels have been in trouble. The most sarkms happening was tho total wreck of a 28-ton island-owned cutter^ which was piled up on Nasalaf Reef,during tho storm a few nights before the Ranadi sailed. Tho crew, made up, of _islanders,, wero all ; succe-ssful: in- reaching shore, sbino/ after being in the water for 24 hours. Tho steamer Dorrigo, employed in tho Suva and Samoan mail service, touched a reef at one of the island ports. Divers were unable to estimate the extent of the damage, and the steamer sailed for Wallace. She was four days overdxi© at Suva on the return, passago when, the..Ranadi sailed.
