EXPLANATION AND APOLOGY

Auckland, August 27
Tho University College Council carried tho following resolutions to-day:—
"That in view of the explanation and apology contained in tho letter from tho Students' Association to tho College Council in connection with the interruptions which took place during tho recent capping ceremony, tho council suggest to the Professorial Board reconsideration of the question with a view to tho possiblo withdrawal of their recommendations to tho University Council (that th« public presentation of degrees be abandoned for one j'ear). Further, that tlie- council, in suggesting this course, is pro-pared to support, the Professorial Board in obtaining from tho Students' Association an unqualified expression of regret for tho recent disturbance-, and whatever guarantees the board considers necessary to prevent the recurrence of such unseemly interruption on any futuro occasion." "That the council accepts tho expression of regret on behalf of the Students' Association for the disturbance at the capping ceremony, and recommends tho association to approach the Professorial Board tendering a full apology for. tho disorder referred to, and offering' to provido a. sufficient guarantee against a repetition of unseemly conduct on futuro occasions."
