—o»_ TO-DAY'S FIXTURES
Men's senior—
\V'ai-Mai A v. Motuoka, Nelson Nelson v. Stoke, Nelson. Ladies' senior—
Wakatu v. Kia Ora, Neteon College v. Hope, Nelson.
To-day's matches should attract a good attendance. Chief interest will be centred on the Wai-Mai v. Motueka match., Motueka have improved a lot since Wai-Mai played them in the first found. This match should be worth seeing. Two ladies' senior matches will also be played; and Nelson will play Stoke.
Good hockey was shown in both matches played at Motueka last Saturday. The ladies' match was the best so far thiis season.
' Wakatu were unlucky to lose. Miss Parsonage shone otit in the- forward line, and led nearly all the rushes. Miss R. Israel has a wonderful knowledge of the game for a first Reason player, and next year should be up : to representative form. Miss Whitwell has played a lot better. Tho bumpy ground seemed to account for her failure in stopping tho ball.
M>.g Grove was safe at full-back, but her hitting at times was weak.
Of the Motueka team Miss Wratt^at full back, was very safe. The half line was fair but got out of position too much. Mi.ss P. Wratt, left wing, played a splendid gam©. She should centre a lot sooner and quicker. Miss Niren, last year's Hawke's Bay rep,, and who is now playing bully for Motueka, played her first game. She was in form, but occasionally gave glimpses of her rep. form. She will strengthen the Motueka team.
Tho Nelson-Motueka match was vigorously contested, and it was not 'till well on in the second spell that Nelson got the upper hand.
Wells, in goal, was running out too much, and this accounted for at least one Motueka score.
Bradley and Oldorshaiy, fiill-hacVs, had plenty to do, especially in tho first spell, and both played well.
Hoslop stood out on hJs own in the hall' line, playing a very fine all round game ;
F. Taylor, as usual, was hard at it all through the game.
Morgan also played a vigorous gfime, but was obstructing—a fault which this player does not seem to got rid of. Brodie was in good form and did some clover stick work.
Boyeg is coming back to form. He played a good game, and was on the ball tho whole game.
Coles was tried inside, and played a hard game, but wag hitting too hard, probably owing to playing wing in other matches.
Hurst was not as good as usual. The bumpy ground was responsible for his failure to take passes. His goal was a smart piece of work. *
Talbot, in goal for Motueka, was running out too much, and on two occasions ho let NeT.son through. McGlashen was very safe at full back, stopping and hitting in fine style.
.Everett, half, played one of the bestback games on the field. He repeatedly blocked the Nelson forwards, and got the ball away to his own men. He also did some vorv cle;rer stick work.
Tooby put in a lot of solid work, but was hanging on to the ball too much.
McNab and Barry mostly headed the forward rushes, and these players gave the Nelson backs a warm time. The latter was inclined to get offside.
Clung, on the left wing, has improved his nliv, but he should learn more about offside and obstruction.
L. Duncan, right wing, got in some good dribbks, but was uncertain at centring. A good point about this payer isthat ho always fields the ball when' possible.'- ■
■ 'Other teams could well take a lesson from Motueka. in fielding and stopping tho boll. , , ':
