AN IRISH ROMANCE.

There is said to he a romantic story behind the recent purchase by Mr. 3lichael O'Connor —a prosperous New York saloon-keeper —of Drumhierney House, near the village of Leitrim, in Ireland.

Mr. O'Connor, who was born in the village of Leitrim, where his father formerly kept a public-house, emigrated to the United States eighteen years ago, starting work there as a bar attendant. Six years ago he learned that his native village was for sale and purchased it. He found out recently that Drumheirney Houso, near the village, was to be sold at auction, and ho travelled ■ specially from New York to bid for it. Ho bought it for a little less than £5000.

By this purchase Mr. O'Connor, who is only thirty-seven years old, becomes ■owner of the entire estate made historic by the last stend of the O'Connor Clan, headed by Roderick O'Connor of Breffney.
