MURCHISON

,Mr. A. G. Monahan, of mid Maruia, met with a nasty accident on Saturday last, which might easily havo resulted very seriously. He was carrying the mail from Fern Flat to Paenga, and when crossing Campbell's creek bridge his horso fell, throwing Mr. Monahan. from, his saddle. He was dragged some distance, and the horso then got clear and Avent on to 'Messrs. Bradbury brothers' house. Mr Roberts and Mr Peacock found Mr. •Monabau on tho road,in a dazen condition, aad at once conveyed him to Messrs Bredbury brothers, where lie spent tho night, but it was several hours before he quite recovered consciousness. Ho was able to resume- the homeward journey next morning, but it was undoubtedly a close ■call.

Tho football match between Murchlson and Glenhopo, which was looked forward to with a good deal of interest, didn't happen simply because the Glenhopo team did not put in an appearance. The Murchison team were accorded a win without playing. Next Saturday the Murchison and Maruia'teams meet, and a really good game is anticipated.

Our new schoolmaster, Mr. Rogers, arrived last Friday with Mrs. Rogers and family, to take up his duties, and it is pleasing to know that he is very favourably impressed with his new sur-

roundings

TliG .Druids Lodge has started a series of debates, the first subject taken being "Is Marriage a Failure." Mr M. Gibbs led off in the affirmative, arid Mr. W. MacFarlana replied in the negative. Several other speakers followed, and at the conclusion the voting resulted in favour of marriage by ten to six. Next lodge evening a sham county election is to take placo.
