About two oVlock tills afternoon a .prisoner named George Albert VVallingiprd. awaiting trial for <a series of thefts from hotels lie re escaped .from gaol. He had been in the washing house, and during the momentary absence of a warder, disappeared. The police spent s n energetic five hours.in search, until a. telephone message from Mr. S. J. Gordon, manager of the- Bank of Australasia, announced "that <a burglar was ia his house. Constable Ke^nan was promptly on the scene, and found the burglar to be "WalJingford. The burglar had got in through a-window while the family was at tea*. Mr Cordon h-vd -occasion to go into the* front portion -of tho house, and thero ::aWiot!!ri'ao moving.
