THE INTERNATIONAL CONFER-
ENCE,
MARITIME REGULATIONS
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS
London, July 8.
The Radio Telegraphic Conference recommended the Government to legislate for compulsory installation of wireless apparatus in certain classes of ships, and for the establishment of coast stations and a permanent service- adequate to tho needs of navigation.
The Conference adopted revised regulations for the exchange of messages between ships and the shore.
A most important decision arrived at was that there should be provision for an auxiliary source of power to enable the working of the apparatus to proceed for at least six hours unaffected by the stoppage of a ship's engines.
Qualified operators must be carried on first class ships, and they must be on continuous duty. Those on second class ships, where a permanent watch is impracticable, must listen for tho first ten minutes of every hour.
The next conference- will, be held at Washington in 1917.
