A SCENE IN SYDNEY.
At Sydney the other clay a bullock broke awey from a mob and came up George street in an angry mood. It bellowed and pawed the ground, and people about the spot sought safe places as quickly as they could. Then it caught sight of a red flag in tho distance, and dashed off towards Park street, where a. traffic constable was directing a stream of vehicles. The constable took in tho situation at once. If the beast was not captured it might do serious damage in the crowded streets. Ho stepped in front of it to head it off, whereupon tho bullock charged him. The constable stepped quickly aside and took refuge behind a cart. He was getting distinctly the worst of it when another policeman came up and seized the animal by the tail. Attacked before and behind, the animal was bewildered for a moment, and then decided to go ahead. Lowering its horns, it dashed off viciously in pursuit of constable number one, while constable number two Jiung on to the* tail. The second constable was jerked off his feet and dragged along the roadway with disastrous consequences to his clothing, but he hung grimly on. By this time a big crowd had gathered to watch the fight, but no one appeared to be anxious to help the policeman. In the end the pluck and doggedness of tho men were rewarded. In making a quick "turn to get rid of its two enemies—by this time policeman number one had got it by tho horns—the animal slipped in the roadway, and in a moment two more policemen Jukl ireinforced.-the attack. The four* policemen led the animal away, while the crowd smiled, thinking the fight an excellent diversion. They were sorry when it was over, but the policemen were not. It might bo a nice legal point whether a constable could call upon a civilian to come to his aid under such circumstances.
