Tho H*v. C. J. Wood, Bishop-eJect of Melanesia, arrived at Fremantie by the Otway.

The Right Hon. James Bryce, British Ambassador at Washington, was a through passenger by the Kotoiti from the. West Coast to Wellington yesterday. During his brief stay Mr Bryce came into town, and walked to the top of the Zig Zag Hill, _ where a magnihce.nt _ view was obtained, the weather conditions being perfect. Before his departure, Mr. Bryce was seen by the Mayor (Mr. T. A. H. Field).

A Wellington telegram states that Mr. W. C. Kensington, 1.5.0., who recently retired from tho position of Under-Secretary for Lands, after nearly 48 years' service, was entertained la,st night by the officers of the Department of Lands and Survey. He was the recipient of numerous handsome presents, and an illuminated address.

High street, where felicitations and tho usual toasts followed. ;The health of the newly married couple was proposed by tho officiating clergyman and honoured with great enthusiasm. Other toast included,. "TEe Parents." the "Hof.t and Hostess/ and tho (<Best Man." Mr. and Mrs. Helean spend their honeymoon in th© North Island. A largo number of friends gathered on tho wharf and gave the young couple a very hearty «end off. Mr. Hejean was also the recipient of a' handsome salad 'bowl and cap.© of silverware from his friends and the staff of tho Post Office Hotel.
