AN INHUMAN FATHER.

In broad daylight on tho morning of April 16 many people on their way to work were spectators of a girl lx.-in<> dangled at the end of a rope out of a bedroom -window" in a Nottingham street. The ropo was round the girl's nock, and a» people made frantic offorfta to reach her from the path she was h,!uikd back towards tJi© window out of roach and then lowered again. The girl, ten years of ago, was suffering agonies. All she. could do was to lessen the 'tightening of the cord round her node by grasping it ! with her hand above her head. Her name is Frances Spowago, the> daughter of Thomas Spowage, formerly a lamplighter. The window wag at her homo in Strotton-stroot. The pcroams of those who first saw tho girl suspended in mid-air quickly attracted a crowd. There r.ho hung out of reach, being slowly ouiFoeatcd, until a brewery worker named Fenn mounted the shoulders of another man and grasped the girl's feet just as the, ■rope was being further haulc-d in. A moment later it snapped ar;<l the girl, in a state of collapse, dropped from her terrible position into Fenn'r. arms. In a neighbouring house restoratives were administered ponding tho arrival of a doctor and at night «ho was,making a 'satisfactory recovery. Having released the girl the Crowd proceeded to investigate the house. One man climbed into tho bedroom and an entrance was also forced at tho back of the nouse, and wheat the police arrived the girl's father was placed tinder arrest.
