WAKEFIELD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The Wakoßeld Social Society held their first mooting on Wednesday ovening. Tho president, the Rev. 0. R. Hewlett, in his opening address, spoke of the value of Christian discipline, and the necessity of being under good government. He was in favour of the pre,sent compulsory military training, if carried out as it is intended it should be. Any man refusing to allow himself to be trained to defend those dependent o»-him, and also the' Country lie lives in, and especially our free country of New Zealand, ought to leave it, as ho would be unworthy of being a citizen. o,f this glorious Empire. The evening was spent in games, -songs, and ■social chat. Before departing tho ladies handed round supper, and everyone wan sorry closing time had arrived
