MURCHISON.

(From a Correspondent.)

The township of Murchison presented an animated appearance on Wednesday last, when in addition to tho monthly stock sales tho sittings of the Magistrate's and Warden's Courts were held, and brought a-largo number of litigants to the township. Fortunately with regard to the Court proceedings tho office of magistrate was almost renderod a sinecure fay the friendly action of tho contending parties settling their cases out of Court. The only case of importance which came up for hearing was in the Warden's Court, which was in regard to the rate on the mining property of the Mb Owon Rising Sun Company, which the valuer had valued at £15,000. The company objected to the valuation, and Mr A. T. Maginnity appeared in support of the objection. The County Council was represented by Mr C. R. Fell. After hearing the evidence tho Warden reserved judgment. Other counsel who were present were Messrs Wilson and Cotterill, of Westport, and Mr W. V. Rout, of Nelson. The usual monthly sales wore as successful as usual, and a large quantity of stock changed hands at satisfactory prices. Tho two hotels of the township had their capacity taxed to their utmost, ancl many visitors were unable to secure accom modat ion.
