Ma jor-G oner.il Sir Robert Baden-Pow-ell was enthusiastically welcomed by a largo gathering. A guard on honour Mas composed of Boy Scouts. Subsequently a civic reception was held at the Town Hall. Replying to tho toast of his health, Sir R. S. S. Baden-Powell said Australia had set the rest of the Empire a grand example- in universal training. "Already," ho continued, "some of our friends ,whq,do not look us straight in the face because, thoy have a bit of a squint, are looking beyond their own confines. We have got to watch them. Australia has taken up the question of self-defence in tho nick of time."
Sir Joseph Ward said ho was glad as a Now Zcalandor to welcome Sir R. S. S. Baden-Powell, who had done more for tho Empire by the Scout movement than by all his daring deeds.
