Through Lord Mersey's award for tho Northumberland Conciliation Board's district being retrospective, there is a windfall of £20,000 in accumulated
wages
The newspapers report a wave of indignant disapproval.
Mr St-raker, general secretary to the union, complains that the award does not grant the 5s which all parties considered was a reasonable minimum.
The president of the union considers the minimum worth fighting for, as it means ;:• considerable, advance to many underpaid workers.
