BOOKMAKERS' HUGE TURNOVER

CREATION OF GREATER, LIARS.

Sydney, May 9

Before the Totalisator Commission the manager for Oxenham, a well known bookmaker, estimated the turnover of bookmakers in New South Wales at nearly £10,000,000. He recommended State control of the totalisator and the abolition of the bookmaker.

In reply to evidence that the totalisator made men liars, the chairman read a wire from a well known Adelaide sportsman to the effect that it was impossible to make greater liars than existed at present.
