COUNTESS DEMANIN'S EVIDENCE

Countess Dem-anin, in giving evidence in the blackmail case, said &lir told Marshall that O'Connor wrote anonymous letters to lie*,-daughter. She asked Page why he gave o'Connor- en much champagne, and Page replied that it was a convenient method of loosening people's tongues to learn what you want. O'Connor wrote anonymous leV ters at a tea party at Kensington. Slife denied that O'Connor was a cat's paw although she agreed with what he had written.
