A speaker at the Manaia banquet last week had a sly tilt at Scotsmen in general, and the Absrdonian in particular. Ho related tho following anecdote of an Englishman, Irishman, and a Scotsman, who wore boiug enrolled as policemen. Each was asked if, in cane of a number of men on tho street buing uproarious while he was on duty, ho would use- his baton. The Irishman said he would, while the Englishman would whistlo for assistance j but the Scotsman said, "Na, na; I wadna' use it." "Well, what wad ye do?" "Aweel, if they wore Aberdonians, a wad tak off ma helmet and gang roond for a subscription. That wad scatter them quick."—Hawera "Star."
