The townsfolk of Braganza armed themselves with fowling pieces in consei quenco of students' misconduct, and attacked the students, who wero armed with automatic pistols. A desperate encounter ensued. Wo- ] men with stilettos joined in the fray, in which five persons wore killed and 23 wounded. The military eventually re-established order. Many arrests wore made.
