London, March 30

Tho University boat race was rowed in a strong Avest-erly wind, the water being choppy. Oxford won tho toss and cJioso the Surrey station. They quickly established a lead of half a length, which was increased to five at Harrod's, where the Cambridge boat was swamped. Some of the crew swam ashore, and the others were rescued by boats. Oxford continued steadily through the water, but the boat sank opposite Chorncrofts. The crew swam ashore, emptied the boat, and re-embarked. They paddled steadily to Mortlako, and finished-in 29 minutes.

The race was declared void
