FIVE CHRISTCHURCH LADS IMPRISONED.

INFANTRY CAMP AT RANGIORA

Christchurch, March 31

For having refused to.pay fines-of 40s and costs 10s for having declined to take the oath under the Defence Act, five youths, Frank Ward, Harold Hayes Charles Wm. Vincent, Alfred Francis Scott, and Thomas Nuttall, were today sent to prison for three weeks. .

Half the battalion of the 13th Regiment of infantry went into camp at llangiorji to-day. The men attending have been drawn from v wide area extending from Cheviot to Belfast and Kaiapoi, and out to Springfield. Major A. E. Loach is the officer in charge. Tlie northern contingent arrived, by train during the day at Rangiora from various northern stations. About 150 men from Southbridge, Springfield, and other southern districts reached Christchurch during the morning, and went "on to Rangiora by train at mid-day. Other contingents went on from jQhrist"cliurch at 5. p.m., and by later trains. A I. tho men s^en at Christchurch seemed to be keen on the camp, and to have ■entered enthusiastically into the spirit of'the work. The camp will last until next Saturday night.
