The vital statistics for the month of March wore : Marriages, 10; births, 24 ; deaths 6. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Nelson People's Terminating -Building j Society wi.l be held to-day'and to-j morrow. The body of Mrs Sheong Kewi, a Chinese lady connected with the Chinese Consul's household, at Wellington, who j died a few days ago-, has bi-en embalmed, and will bo sent forward to China. The deceased lady was only 21 years old. Hawks are becoming a groat pest in the Waikato, and have been playing havoc among young pheasants and the partridges recently imported from England, tn and around Cambridge 3d per hf ad is to be paid for hawks' heads. Mr. David Hudson, of Waropa, who is 93 years of ago, is a fine typo of the 'pioneers who came to the colonies from Scotland more than half a century ago. He turned out to the harvest fie!d one day last week ajid stooked five acres cf oats. At the Cathedral last evening prayers were said for the cessation and solution of the present industrial difficulties and strife throughout the Empire. The Rev. J. P. Kempthorne said a prayer, which.was written by Dr Mules, the Bishep of Nelson, which will be said throughout" the diocese.
