A Wellington telegram states that owing to tho local bodies having large-. ly token over the expenditure of road grants the position of Inspecting Engineer of Roads, hold by Mr Wright, is to bo abolished. Mr. Wright will take charge of tlw> Rlenheim public works district in place of Mr. H. IF. Sharp, who will be transferred to Wo-stport. - Mr. Wood, at present at Wostporl, becomes Resident Engineer at Whangarei.

Mr. G-co. Stewart (formerly with Jfossrp. Kirkpatrick and Co.) is paying a short visit to Nel.snn and is being waniily welcomed by' his many friends here.

Ward says, ''1 appreciate vctry highly the courtesy which has been shown convoying to me the sentiments embodied in tho memorial, and I shall bo glad if you will accept and express to those who appended their signatures, my warm thanks .for the kindness extended to mo, and which is appreciated most highly. Cordially reciprocating on behalf of Lady Ward, myself and fami'.y the good wisli!es for the future convoyed in the wnnuiunication.—Yours, etc., J. G. Ward."
