Mr. Charles Uoughtnn Mills has been appointed Crown solicitor v.t Blenheim. Mo is a son of the Hon. C. H. Mills, M.L.C.
A Rotorua telegram states that Mr. G. A. Empson, who has iieen promoted to the Chief-Postinnstership at Hokitika has a record of thirty-four years as a postmaster, having hern placed in charge at Havelock four years after joining tiu". Colonel Noako, fonnor'.y a resident of Hnkianga, but now living in Auckland, reached his 83 rd birthday a few days ago. Colonel Noake has had an interesting career. Ho saw active service away back in 18-17, when hv was in comniar.d of troops sent to quoll the-Smith-O'Hrion riots in that year. He was also right through the Crimea, and was present at the Balaclava charge. after which he was awarded the distinguiKhi'd service medal. He also saw service in India,'and nearly fifty years ago took charge of the militia south of Wangnnui. During the Mr.ori War he took part in i!:c relief of Pipiriki and tho capture of the chief Tniiroa. and was in charge of the AYnnganni contingent at J'nriliaka wlien Te Whiti and Toliu wrc taken prisoners.
