Trentham, March 7. To-day was tha final day of the championship meeting at Ireutham, two championships being decided —the service and the Ballinger challenge belt. The service "championship in which the highest "fifty in the aggregate took part, occupied all tho morning- : The afternoon was devoted to the King's prize. " When the shooting started in the morning it was raining heavily, and blowing a gale —truly service conditions, but setveral of the men put up good scores, notably tho winner Merrilees (Tauranga) and Duthie (Christchurch). . During tho interval between the two championships, tho riflo club delegates hold a conferonco with General Godley, in which several matters pertaining to rifle clubs, as well as to future meetings of the Dominion Rifle Association, were' discussed.

At 3 o'clock the King's match, ton shots at 1000 yards was commenced. Tho match was fired in a heavy storm rain pouring down at times,'while the wind blew from the rear in groat gusts. As a result tho scoring was very poor. The championship was won by tho youthful Woodyillo rifleshot, Leslie Loveday, who is only 21 years of age, and the youngest man who lias ever won a New Zealand championship. Loreday's score was only 26, out of a possible of 50, but a 9 all the leaders suffered badly by tho gale his low score did not harm his chance of victory. Th o second place went to that brilliant young Christchurch shot, Norman Wood, who piled on 34, which was tho highest individual score made, and also secured him the Rifle cup. Tho championship was the most boisterous over fircid at Trentham, and is only equalled in Now Zealand shooting history by that- at Oamaru in 1898. Merriloes, of Tauranga, tho service champion, wins tho Kynoch cup. The following are the principal scores:—

King's prize, 1000 yards, 10 shots, £35, Balinger champion belt, gold medal, gold and D.R.A. badges : Loveday (9th Regiment) 459, '26, total 485; £20, silver star, and D.R.A. badge: N. Wood (Christchurch) 444, 34, 478; £12, silver star, and D.R.A badge: A. W. Cawood (Opiti) 448. 27, 475; £12, silver star, and D.R.A. badge: A. Neilson (9th Regiment) 449, 25, 474; £5 ' each and D.R.A. badge, Caldwell (Karori) 473, Masefield (Sonnds) 473, Roots (Kaponga) 472, Milroy (Nelson) 471, Banks (Kimboltonj 469, Hyde (Opaki) 469, Maingay (4th Regiment) 468, Willoughby (Karori) 468; £2 each, and badge, Atkinson (Auckland) 468 G.
