HUDDERSFIELD BELLRINGERS' BAND.
The following is an extract from a Wellington daily on the above band, who show here to-morrow night for a season of . three nights: "Musical combinations of various kinds have been heard in Wellington before, but the premier p'.ace for those of the novel description must go to the Huddursfield Bellringers' Band. This company is at present appearing at •the Opera House, and last evening they gave their second performance. One would not expect human boingi; to be able to extract musical sounds .of any sort from mere bells, hut under the conductorship of Professor A. Tbwnscud the bellringers treat classical compositions with perfect technique. Besides high-class music they disburse numerous well-known selections arid plaintive airs in such a way that it would bo only the most unrefined and uncultured who could not offer some meed of appreciation. Last evening "Kyrie and Gloria," from the 12th Mass, wa% rendered in mostmoving manner, and at the conclusion the audience —a very largo one—applauded again and again. The varied nature of the programme is in no small way the secret of its success with the public—the ringers ..appear to bo able to master anything that comes their way. Ev.er.y- item was heartily oncorod, and it n-as a delighted audience which left the Opera House at the «id of the entertainment. Accompanying the bcllringors on their tour are two singers, Miss Ella Air'.io a.nd Miss Lillian Bennett. The former lady makes herself popular with her hearers h-om the start by the way in which sh" 1 presents her humorous so^igs, and Miss Lillian Bennett has h charming voice." The box plan is at Jackson's.
