When the strike began a band of anarchists took possession of. the trades unionist headquarters ut Lisbon, and incited the strikers to assassination and pillage. Troops thereupon surrounded the headquarters, forbidding entry. The nowspapers aro not appearing, and tho shops and theatres aro closed. The Government has taken measures to proveht a bread famine, and the soldiery are protecting tho gas and electricity plants. Two bomb explosions perpetrated; by strikers wreckod tram cars. Shipping on the Tagus is paralysed.
