NORTHERN A SSOCIATION'S

Wellington, Jan 8.

The Northern Bowling Association's tournament commenced to-day in splendid weather, with the greens in excellent condition. There are 100 rinks and 400 players engaged, representing 52 clubs,, ranging from Westport and Dunedin iii the south and west to Auckland and Gisborne in the north" nnd east.

In opening the tournament, Mr J. Keith, president of the Association, said that tho entry of 100 rinks was the largest in tho history of the Association, and a record for tho Dominion. In the interests of the As-sociation-the Council had eliminated the pairs matches from tho programme. The Association was now in its 21st year, and had started with 15 clubs, having now a membership of 500. There were now 62 clubs affiliated, with a membership of over 4300.
