On Friday last the Wakefield Harmonic Society rendered the cantata "Tlio Haymakers"* in. the public hall, which was well 'filled for the occasion, and tho audience throughout manifested tho keenest appreciation of the performance. Mr Kdridge, tho conductor, was in excellent form, and tlio pianist, Miss Palmer, carried, out her part in first-class style. About forty voices assisted in tho performance, and the audience showed a hearty appreciation of the various numbers. At the conclusion Dr. Hudson moved a ,hearty vote of thanks- to Mr Edridge, Miss Palmor, and the members of the Society for tho musical trrat they had afforded to tho residents- of Tapawora and the surrounding districts. Mre Wadsworth very kindly lent her piano for tho occasion, and this favour was much appreciated. The.hall was lent froe of charge, as the proceeds of the entertainment, after paying expanses, arc to go towards the building of tlifnew church at Tadntnr. Ladies of Tapawera very kindly provided .tho visitors with tea on their arrival, and also coffee after the concert. The courteous and popular manager of railways for the Nelson district, Mr Edwards, kindly delayed tho train till after the concert, and also ran it back to AVakeiield. The principi) solos- and duets, were entrusted to Misses Ada Palmer, HouH, Thomas, Lammas and Fearless; Mesdames Liglitband and 0." Mead, and Messrs Battey, Edwards. C. Mead, L. Hoult P. Palmer and W. A. Light-band, and the well-merited applause which greeted the various items showed that their efforts were much appreciated. The not financial result will r.dd a little over £6 to the church building fund.
