Wellington, Jan 5. The following is the Rev. D. C. Bates' weather forecast and Bummary:—

Fair weather has prevailed, and warmer to-day, but unsettled conditions have persisted about Foveaux Straits. Tho barometer rose slovlv in the night, and has recorded littlemorement to-day. Moderate to strong southerly winds have predominated in tho north, and variable, though mainly northerly in tho South Island.
