MOTUEKA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SPRING FLOWER SHOW.

The spring flower show was held on Wednesday and notwithstanding the fact that half a gale of wind wns blowing, there was a good exhibition of flowers and vegetables. The feature of the show was the magnificent show of sweet peas. Messrs Griffon, Poolo and L. A. Boyes took most of the prizes with named modern varieties of exceptional merit. The blooms were of line size and colour, and proved what a tremendous advance lias been made in the cultivation of this beautiful flower. The roses were the best that we have had for sc. eral years. Messrs Rankin and Skilton deservedly scored in the sixes and collection. Theo. Kelling scored -with a nice twelve and Mrs. A. I. Manoy and Mr. Griffen took the prizes in the single, exhibits with fine blooms. Miss Niven and Mrs. Nicholson scored with some fine bouquet loose'y arranged in the modern style. Mr. G. A. Harknesa sent a fine lot of roses from Nelson, but they arrived too late for competition. All the blooms were named and they attracted a good deal of attention. There was a large entry for the best decorated table and the lady judges awarded the first prize to Mrs W. E. Poole. There was a good attendance of the public and the takings at the door amounted to over £24. Mesdamcs Anderson and Jaqnes judged the doeoratcd tables. Mr. M. Budden the flowers, Mr, It. Fry the vegetables, and Mrs. Wratt the dairy produce etc. The- prize list was as follows: —
