AMUSEMENTS.

BOCCACCIO

The second nerformanec of the comic opera "BocCaccio" by tho Nelson Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society in the Theatre Royal last evening was greeted with a packed house, every seat in the place being filled. The atmosphere was one of encouragement t» tho performers^ who were heartily applauded for their intelligent and musical rendering of this very difficult and high class composition. The natural diffidence to performing in front of a large crowd, an almost unavoidable contingency in amateur work of this kind, had to a large extent forsaken tho company on its second appearance, and the confidence with which the parts were carried out gave a lively swing to the three acts which showed the various performers at their best. To-night should pioduce a maximum of enterprise in the treatment of the characters, and it is safe to say that tho last performance will bo easily the host one. The choruses last evening were most enlivening, and all the singers were in equally good voice as on the first night. The principals were throughout warmly applauded, and almost all tho ladies received bouquets. The final act again created the greatest enthusiasm, especially the military drill by the girls which was heartily encored. Recalls were the order of the evening, and the three dancing girls and most of the principals had to respond to ondores. Considering the exceedingly heavy expense which the Society has been put to in so elaborately staging the production it is to be hoped that public patronage will be freely extended this evening, and that the season will bo made a record one for many recent years. Seats may still be booked at Bunny's, and considering the crush last evening it would be advisable for patrons to avail themselves of the box plan.
