PAYMENT OF M.P's
The British Government has found itself seriously embarrassed by the scheme for the payment of members of Parliament. The proposal would have been certainly defeated but for the excitement caused by the Lords' Bill and the subsequent railroad strike. The first payment has'just been made, with the result that si considerable number, of members have returned their cheques to the Treasury Departments with peremptory instructions that no further payments bo made to them. Others have-cont-emptuously handed over tlie money to public charities.
