Tho Itiwaka Central Tennis Club defeated tho Motueka Club last week by. eleven sets to live. Tho Central Club was represented by Mesdames Atkins and Askew, Misses Bate and Fry, and Messrs Askew, Chittenden, Goodall and Duncan. An eight men asido match was played on-Wednesday last between tho Motuoka Club and a mixed team from Riwaka. The .Ylotuekians proved victorious by thirteen sets to three. Riwaka was represented by Messrs Hamilton, Duncan, Shepherd, Fry, Askew, Goodall, Chittenden, and Cederman, and Motuoka by Messrs Frost, Bradley, Lynch, Thompson, Mclnnes, Sanders, GrifTc-n, and Canavan.
In the cricket championship Lower M'outero are leading, and whatever te";» heals them will have a good chpuee Tor the cup. They put Up over 180 inns against Motueka in the first innings on Saturday, and Motueka have- lost four wickets for 56. Upper Moutere defeated Brooklyn by ten wickets on the latter club's ground.
Flection matters arc livening up, and there is likely to be a heavy local vote cast for the Government candidate. A committee has been set up of leading residents to further the lion. R. McKenzie's candidature, and more interest than usual is being evinced in election matters generally.
Tiic Riwaka Dramatic Society gave r> iJM'i'ormar.ee in the Institute on Friday evening, the proceeds to go to h'.-lp establish a .supply of fresh water nt the Kaiteriteri picnic grounds. There was a good attendance of tho puMie, and the society staged three hiimorou;; farces, entitled "The Luiip.tie?." "A Strange Coincidence," and "A Regular Fix." Tho different characters were taken by Mesdames !'!lm Ery, Sigloy, and Hodge, Misses M. Barnett and F. Barnett, Messrs Fl'i'< Pry, Shepherd, Cedorman, Jeffrri .•::, Rowling, Owen and Pattio. Tbr> ox! i'llcncp of the performance was lii'.d'jublcd, all the characters being well taken, with clear enunciation, and the mounting of the scenery, etc., w;r: ahead of anything that we havo hr.d before. Mr. W. Jaques has been instructor to the society for some time and the success of the performance is largely due to his excellent tuition.
