Mr; H. J. Brown, managing director of the British Empire Oilfields, arrived at Wellington yesterday, says a Press Association telegram, on his way to visit the Taranaki oilfields. Mr. Brown is accompanied by Mr. Carter, chairman of the Taranaki Petroleum Company.
A Dannevirke telegram announces the death of Captain G. D. Hamilton aged 76, a very old settler of Hawkes Bay. He was formerly owner of the Mangatoro estate, in connection with which considerable litigation took place between Captain Hamilton and tlk> Bank of New Zealand. "~
A Hobart cable states that Parliament agreed to appoint the Hon. J. McCall Agent General for three years at a salary of £1000 per annum.
The lawn tennis players Brookes and Heath are passengers for New Zealand by the Maheno, says a Sydney cable.
News has been received in Timarn, says a Press telegram, of tho death in Sydney after an operation of Mr. James Hay, M.A., LL.B. solicitor, of Timaru. He was expected home next Saturday from a trip to the Old Country. He was 50 years of age.
