NEWS OF THE DAY.
The death occurred yesterday of Mr Frank Neal, a well known and respected resident of Brightwater.
At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. a first offender for drunkenness was convicted and discharged. Harry Potter, charged with having assaulted a woman so as to cause, her actual bodily harm, was further remanded for another eight days, Sergeant Mullanv stating that she was still suffering from the effects of a fractured jaw and was unable to appear.
At the Presbyterian Church yesterday morning a quiot wedding took place, the contracting parties beirg Mr. T. Brown, eldest son of Mr Alexander Brown, and Miss Ellen M. Simpson, youngest daughter of the late Mr. R. Simpson, of Nelson. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. H. MacKenzie. Tho bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. W. Simpson, wore a cream cloth coat and skirt, with large black hat and carried a beautiful bouquet of white roses, pelargoniums, clematis, maiden hair and asparagus fern. The bride was attended by Miss Q'Hara Smith, who was attired in pink muslin, with hat to match, and carried', a bouquet of pink roses and maiden hair fern. Mr. Vincent Trask was best man. After the ceremony the wedding party assembled at the residence of Mr. E. E. Trask, where the health of tho happy couple was drank, They were also* the recipients of many handsome and useful presents. Mr. and Mrs. Brown left for Wellington yesterday morning }>y the Takapuna en route to Melbourne and Sydney, whore the honeymoon will be spent; The bride's going away dress was blue poplin, with hat to" match.
