£200 FOR SIXTH CHILD.
There has been great agitation in France over tho decreasing birth-rate and when Mons. A. Renault, of Houdan, Seine-et-Oise, died not long ago. it was found that he had left tho large sum of £8400 to tho local authorities for a rather curious purpose. He was a great believer in large families, and by a clause in his will stipulated that the husband of every Houdan woman who gave birth to a sixth child should receive a gift of £200. His generosity has been much appreciated, and there have been several claims for the £200.
