THE APPROACHING SHOW

The general committee of the abo^e named Association, met nt.JLtichmpni on Saturday evening, when the president (Mr, Godfrey Best) was in .the chair. There were also present: Messrs W. R. May, James Hunt, W. Colemanj J, Hagen, W. D. Harkness, Sfehwass, G. W. Best. Charles Ching, J. E, Bartlett, G. E. Chisnall, Holland, Hi Croucher, Ivo Tunnicliff, W. T. Bond and Dr. Andrew, Apologies were received for the absence of Alessrs. James Ching and Peter H'gginsi , Tlid finance committee reported as to the arrangeemnts made lor tho rotd the arrangements made for the reception of his Excellency tho Governor and suite i

Mr. Coleman reported as to the steps ho had taken lor procuring flags and tents.

Mr. Charles Ching said that inquiries had been made as to whether fodder would bo provided on the show days.

The president, in reply, said tho printed schedule which had been distributed stated that fodder would be provided.

The secretary (Mr. Glen) proposed Mri Si Bcrryman as a member of tho Association, which was agreed to.

Messrs: !<'. C; Batehelorj ¥. Colemnn; It. H. Coleman, J. Jellyman, Joseph Thorn; and J. AVadswortu wrote notifying their willingness to comply with the requests that thoy should act as stewards at the Show.

Tho New Zealand Defence Department wrote stating that tonts would be lent on the condition that any damage to same would be repaired.

Messrs. Dalgety and Co. forward-

:1 a chequo of three guineas as a donation, which was received with acclamation and thanks.

The Private Secretary to his Excellency wrote that the Governor would bo present at the Show, but lie would make no speech.

The Hon. Roderick McKenzio notified that it was probable that his Excellency the Governor would com« overland by motor car from Christchurcli,

Tenders wero received from the Nelson Garrison, the Nelson Citizens' .il the Richmond Brass Bands for the supply °f music. The tendering was close. jir. Bartlett moved, and Mr. Holland seconded, that the tender of the ..nimond iirass Hand be accepted. Mr. G. W. JJest thought the bands should be taken in turns, as the bhow, was a public aifaii\ As the .Richmond iiiass .band was engaged last year, he moved as an amendment that the i\eison Garrison .band bo engaged this year. ! Air. J. Hagen seconded the amendment, which on being put was lost by a close vote.

Di:: Andrew moved, as a further amendment, that the Nelson Citizens7 Band's tender be accepted.

Seconded by Mr. lvo Tunniciiff, and on being put was lost.

Mr, Bartlett's motion was then agreed to.

The question arose as to whether vehicles, without the horses, should bo allowed to stand along the cycling track on Show day.

After some discussion, on the motion of Mr. G. li, Chisnall, seconded by Mr. Holland, the matter was referred to the grounds committee, with power to act.

An application from a person at Wanganui to be allowed to conduct sales in the pavilion, was declined.

I\lr. Hayes Croucher drew attention to cAmplaints about fat sheep and lambs being shut tip whi'.e awaiting their sale. He said last year one exhibitor had lost thereby.

On tlie motion of Mr. May, seconded by Mr. H. Crouchcr, it was resolved that a large pen or a couple of extra liens be erected for the fat sheep and lambs, in order that the lambs should not suffer from being separated from their mothers.

On the motion of Dr. Andrew, seconded by Mr. Sehwass, it was resolved that all the jigllt horses bo quartered on tile Show ground just below the cattle pens.
