AN ELOPEMENT.
New York society has been stirred by tho elopement of Miss Julia Estelle French, daughter of Mr. Amos Tuck French, a millionaire banker, with Jack Geraghty, a taxi-cab driver.
Miss French had been staying with her family at Newport, where Geraghty, senr., is manager of the local garage. On Tuesday night young Geraghty and Miss French eloped in a taxi-cab. Friends of the girl pursued them, but they were unablo to pick up the trail.
As a matter of fact, the runaways had made for Central Village, Connecticut, which was reached shortly after midnight. The landlord of the only hotel was aroused and told that a couple desired to bo married immediately.
A clergyman who happened to bb staying in tho hotel was awakened, and he agreed to officiate if a license were secured. The town clerk was roused from his bed> and issued tho required license.
The party then returned to tho hotel, and the marriage was performed in the parlour. The wife of the hotel proprietor acted as matron of honour, and a local hardware dealer performed the duties of best man.
Tho couple spent tho night in the hotel, and left in the morning, saying that they were bound for New York. It is believed, however, that they have gone secretly to Boston.
