The new Sunday school for the benefit of the children attending tho Church of Christ is being erected between the road and railway line opposite Mr. Teleniua' now store. It will bo a lofty and airy building of Gothic design. Mr. John McPherson is the builder, and hopes to complete ,it in about six weeks.
Dominion Day was observed here as" a holiday. A number of persons repaired the damage done to the tennis courts by the recent floods. The school children assembled round the flag pole for tho purpose of saluting tho flag, tho chairman, Mr. E. McPherson and teachers taking part Mr. Peart impressed upon the children tho value of "the Flag," and the freedom it represented, Ho i.rg;.-u them to do all in their power to keep it over floating over them, mid it \ya» a duty devolving upon them to assist. Miss L. Peart accompanied those assembled in singing the National Anthem.
Tho Wakefield Juvenile Rechabite Tent is flourishing. It is intended shortly to hold ji Rechabite picnic at tho Sands. The adult lodge is also making good progress, its members numbering about seventy.
Mr. C. Telenius has lately had erected a handsome dwelling house adjacent to tho store.
The plans for the erection of tho new Library are under discussion, and we hopo shortly to learn that something definite is being done to ensure its speedy erection.
Mr. James Bruce, agent for Messrs F. and D. Edwards,, lias moved hi;; family into Nelson. He is very popular here, and wo do not want to los him altogether. We arc all hoping that the County Council's engineer, Mr. Littlejohn will find time to survey, the new section of the main road by the railway station before taking up his duties as engineer for Nelson. The County Council bus clone a good deal for Wakefield, and tins work is one of the few tilings that remain to be done to put the place in order for the summer.
