A WOOL KING.
- Most of us have heard of Roubaix —a place soinowhefe, in France where there is an exhibition or something at which the Commonwealth has a pavilion (writes the London correspondent of the "Sydney Morning Herald"). We read of it about a month ago. And yet they say that of tho whole of the wool that at present wanders about. Australian paddocks about ( one-third eventually goes to Roubaix and its district —one-third of our whole clip. Roubaix is one of a cluster of throe tow"*—Roubaix. T'llo and Tourcoing—which have a population between them of about I,UOU,OUO, and are the centre of the woollen industry in France. That is why the i Commonwealth is exhibiting m ftoubaix. Argentine is exhibiting too, and for many times the money has put up a show not superior in innny j ways to that which Australia has £.c----hieved for £2,000. New Zealand snout £2.000 there also. Tho Mayor of Roubaix, Mons. Eugene Motte, is I the biggest manufacturer nf ,vool in the world —a man wlm. besides l.vying the whole of tho F'vvch ..lip acj tually takes over £1,000,000 worth of i wool from Australia. Seeing that frozen pieat is not allowed into f'rai co and it is only by a concession chat .'ii exhibit of it has been allowed, into Roubaix. it may be important +hit a commercial authority like Me i>s. Motte_ is so closely in touch with i ustralasia.
