THE WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP.
AN IMPROMPTU TRIAL,
"Dick" Arnst and Harry Pearce, who will row for the champion ship of the world on the Parramatta river on Saturday.next,-according to the latest Australian' files, are both confident of victory. Last weok the men, who go out oii the rivor daily about the same time, got off the mark simultaneously, and the' inevitable happened. Pearce broke away (says the "Referee"), and quickly had a little over a length's lead from the champion. The men, watching each other keenly, kept -together for a merry two miles, when Pearce retained'his advantage. The pacemakers were left astern., Pearce says- he was rowing strongly, but well within himself; and Arnst acknow-. ledges that he was not loafing. The result of tho dust up, however, does not seem to put out the champion. Nothing seems to. He proceeds with his training in the same methodical •way. and is satisfied that he is getting the best out of himself.
