ANNUAL BANQUET.

The annual banqiiet following the 27th annual poultry show held under the auspices of tho Nelson Poultry Association, was held in the Masonic Hotel last evening. The president j. Mr H. Baigeiit, occupied tjie chair. There was a largo attendance ol members of tho Association, and visitors.

Amongst the speeches made was one by the President, who complimented the Society on tiie. progress made in the course of its 27 years of existence. He had been a member of the body for twelve years now, and had ample opportunity of judging what a fine set of fellows composed it. The recent show had been an eye-opener, and tco much could not be said of those who worked so hard to secure its success. The public had supported the Association well, and the attendance had beeil in keeping with the fine display <\T birds.

The secretary, Mr F. Gibbons, spoko of the able assistance given him by all members of the Association. The funds were in a flourishing condition, and the prospects for the future were all that a poultry association could look forward to with pleasurable anticipation. Dm-iug the evening the 'following toasts were honoured: The King, proposed by the Chairman; Nelson Poultry Association, proposed by Mr Noble, responded to by Mr Baigent; The Judges, proposed by Mr F. Gibbons, responded to by Messrs Frost, Hockey, Noble and Martin ; The Visitors, proposed by Mr E. Martin and responded to by Mr Cornish; Thfc Ladies, proposed by Mr A. G. Betts: Tho Press, proposed by Mr Betts and responded to by Mr Hanby. Vocal items were rendered by Messrs Richards and Betts. A "very enjoyable banquet was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne, and God Save the King. ' ;.
