SATURDAY'S GAMES,
Motueka (3) v. Nelson (3)
The above game in the Men's Senior I competition was played on Saturday at the lleserve. It was the first meeting of these teams this season, the game being a. first-round fixture. The match has always provided one of the best games of the season, and in consequence there was a fair attendance of spectators. Not long after the start, following even play, Boyes scored a good goal for Nelson, who then had somewhat the better of the game. Well on in the spell, however, Motueka took a hand, and from a long pass from the touch-line McNabb took the ball on the fly and sent in a very hot shot. Ha'.f-time sounded with honours oven . The second spell provided plenty of fast open play, which soon ended in Hurst-putting Nelson one to the good again. Shortly afterwards, from a corner hit, Brodie sent in & good shot ,and with the best part' of the spell gone, Nelson held an advantage of two goals. Motueka, how- ' ever, generally put in a solid finish, and it was so on Saturday, and in the closing stages they pulled the game out of the fire, making it a draw. Soon after Nelson's third score, Motueka rushed to the other circle, and after the ball had passed across in front of the goal once or twice McNabb got a clear opening and found the net. On ; recommencing they immediately re- ■ turned to the attack, and amidst ! cheers Tooby made the scares even. ; from thon to the finish the game was i very lively and just on time "Motueka I put the ball into the net, but it had been shot from just outside the circle, i Time then sounded, leaving the teams J still level for second plaoe, but now | three points behind Wai-Mai. For • Motueka, McNabb was probably the best forward, the wings being weak. , Le Mottee, Batchelor and Everett, made a good half-line, and McGlashen at full back, who played a splendid . game against Federal' the previous Saturday, was good at times. On the I Nelson side, Boyes and Brodie were | the best of the forwards. The halves wore the weakest line, Heslop being T the best. Spear and Bradley, at fu'l ■ back, put in a lot of good work. Both goal-keepers were fair. Messrs T. L. Floyd and V. Rydor refereod, and for practically the first time in Nelson, undercutting was rigorously penalised, while obstruction was also "sat on" heavily.
Wai-Mai heat Post Office in r. scratch game by three to one.
