HAYWARD'S PICTURES.
The new programme presented at the Theatre iioyal on Saturday afternoon and evening proved a very excellent one, dealing with interesting subjects and screened extremely sharp and clear. "A Study in Expressions," portraying a 1 turn by Mr. Blakeley, showed to what extent control of the facial muscles can be carried by an artist in that direction. Perhaps one the best "expressions" was "His First Cigar," wherein the different stages from joyful anticipation to dismal realisation were admirably mimicked. There" were also a proposal and a game of nap illustrated by facial contortions. It was as clever as it was funny. "A Reel Girl's Friendship" was a splendid Bison film brightly acted, the plot of which introduced cowboys, on Indian girl and a dashing "damsel of the plains," and revolved around an Indian girl's gratitude and the greed for gold. "Scones in Wismar" (Mecklenberg) was a well photographed scenic of the Urbanora Co., a product of the typo that is at once interesting and educational. "Rejoicings in the Congo" introduced African scenery and the African's character under the sunniest of conditions, and alos had travel value. "A Western Gambler" was one of the popular Essanay scries, and showed an efficacious, if drastic, remedy for that vice. Comedy was supplied by "Hank and Lank as Sanrlwiehmeii,' "The Visit of a Friend" (which showed the length to which a would-be visitor went to gain an entrance), au.d "An Old Man's Love," a well-staged and splendidly-acted comedy, in which the wooing by tho Marquis vastly amused the audience, but the valet wins. Altogether it is a very interesting educational programme, full of wholesome fun. It will bo screened to-night and to-mor-row.
