PROCURING LIQUOR FOR A PROHIBITED PERSON.
* George Hay was charged with haying on or about May 19th procured liquor for Harold 6. Muncaster, knowing the latter to a prohibited person. Mr Atkinson appeared for defendant, who»pleaded not guilty. Harold G. Muncaster stated that the defendant had procured liquor for him and brought it to the back of White's restaurant. It would be three or four weeks before the 9th June. Witness asked Hay to get the liquor, and gave him the money. By Mr. Atkinson: Hay was only a casual acquaintance of ins. He could not say whether Hay knew witness was prohibited. The defendant said he had not served Muncaster with beer at any time. It was absolutely false that he had supplied Muncaster with beer. By Sergeant Mullany:' He had been in Muncaster's company about eight times altogether. He had been with Muncaster at the back of Sharland's shop. It was false that Muncaster gave him money to get liquor. He had not taken liquor to Sharland's afany time. He knew that Muncaster was prohibited. Defendant said that he was at Sharland's shop on June 3rd, but took no liquor there. The .Magistrate said that this was another case of conflict of testimony. He could not understand Muncaster giving the name of an innocent person. It was only under compulsion that he had divulged the names. He was satisfied that defendant did supply Muncaster with liquor, but it was a question whether the date had been fixed sufficiently. Judgment would be given the next day.
