Last evening a lad namod Smith, while cycling in Collingwood street was capsized by a dog and sustained a very heavy fall, which stunned him for a few minutcß. He was taken into Pau.ing's Temperance Hotel, and after resting a few minutes was able to proceed home.

A very painful accident happened to a lad named Wat-kins, employed b\ Mehfirs Stfiwart and Walker, Waipapa, on Wednesday (reports the "Jvaikoura Star"). Watkins, who is one of tho "Sedgwiqk" boys—brought out from England a few months ago—was splitting some wood, when the axo slipped, and se/cred the big toe of the right foot in half, lengthways. Th, hoy was immediately brought, into town by Mr. Walker', the twenty-five mile journey proving very trying to the sufferer. Drs. Slater and Saunders attended him, and the wound was stitched up and dressed (under chloroform), and he was made as comfortable as possible under the bireumstantes.
At. the Dunedin annual meeting bl the Licensing Committee the landlord of the Commercial.Hotel, John Watson, was cautioned regarding bookmakers alleged to frequent his premises.
