NOVEL TAXATION.

History is being made by the Town Council of Ellonsburg, Washington, U.S. They propose to tax all unmarried men and women in the town £5 per year. The unhappy bachelor may secure relief by making an affidavit to tho effect that he has during his bachelorhood proposed to three unmarried and unbotrothed women. Names and addresses, however, mrst bo given before a fatherly council will admit that he has done his best to remedy his state of "single blessedness." Women may also be exempted on swearing that they never receded a proposal, but as an off-set to this concession, the fastidious woman who has rejected a proposal will bo liublo to an additional tax of ten dollars for every suitor refused.
