Though blind and deaf, the Rev. Fred Hall, new nastor of the Blackburn Unitarian Church, is a reputed orator. He is an excellent whist player, and at a drivo held in connection with his church he proved one of the best of the party. His own pack of Braile type cards is used at his table, and he is told what card eacli rdayer throws down. H? has an excellent memory, and he neither revokes nor plays a wrong card. After sorting the cards, he plays them from his pocket.
"High buildings, sir?" remarked an American, contemptuously. "Why, in England you don't know what height is! Last time I was in New York it was a blazing hot day, and I saw a man coming out of a lift wrapped from top to toe in bearskins, and I said to him, 'Why are you muffled up on a broiling dav'like this?" 'Waal,' he said, 'you.see. I live at the top of the building, and it's so high that it's covered with snow all the year round!' " j
